How It All Started
We began putting together our farm in 2021 when my loving wife bought me a 6-chicken capacity coop as a joke gift for my birthday. I had been telling her I wanted to have some livestock like a few goats, or a few sheep and I got a chicken coop (some assembly requires, more on that shortly). Then our very good neighbors and friends had friends who were needing to rehome 4 chickens in another planned surprise with my loving wife (insert playful sarcastic smile here) the neighbors had them in their garage. My wife informs me we needed to put a rush on putting the chicken coop together. So, with her help, and staying up till almost midnight, we put the coop together and the next day 4 chickens become the happy tenants. They were about 6 weeks old, officially called pullets, and over the next 6 weeks they were well fed and grew into big healthy ROOSTERS!!! Yup, we had no egg laying girls and 4 noise making boys (insert second playful sarcastic grin here, love you honey!!). So fast forward a little and then comes some beautiful 3-week-old chicks and the rest is history. Now we are a small little farm sharing what we nurture, grow and make with everyone who desires, small farm goodness in their homes and much more than that as you’ll see when you explore our site.
The Stars Of The Show
Our chicken flock consists of the following breeds: True Blue Whiting, Olive Easter Egger, Brahma, Jersey Giant, and Rhode Island Red. In our store you’ll find eggs, both chicken and duck and now quail (all eggs are for local purchase only no shipping), all freshly laid. You may be asking why do you charge more for your eggs than what the grocery store is charging? Fun fact, the eggs you buy in the grocery store are as much as 2 months old by the time you buy them due to collecting, processing and transport to the grocery store, not to mention you don’t know what those chickens have been fed. I don’t know about you, but I fully expect to pay less for something that is old! As for what the chickens eat, they have two food sources, they have the ability to feed during daylight hours from non GMO high protein feed as well as they free range and forage for anything they find to eat. When it comes to our “highest quality” brand, it is simple, our chickens far exceed the minimum threshold USDA definitions of the terms “cage free eggs” and “free range”, and here is why. The Government defines “cage free eggs” as “laid by hens that are able to roam vertically and horizontally in indoor houses and have access to fresh food and water” Our chickens have a big open house as they need protection from predators and that’s it, nothing subdivided and all the chickens huddle together to sleep in a 9’ X 26’ encloser. The Government defines “free range” as “Chickens must have "outdoor access" or "access to the outdoors." meaning “Chickens must have the opportunity to go out of their enclosure” There is no exact precise definitions other than that. Our chickens don’t just have an opportunity to leave the enclosure, they are put out to pasture, lol, foraging from 30 minutes after sunup to as close to sundown as is possible every day!
Ever Expanding
Our site is still evolving, just like the farm, and we will be adding more things to the store weekly and monthly to include the previously mentioned quail eggs, local honey, soaps, and candles/melts. From the wood shop, yes, we have a wood shop on the farm. We will be adding cutting boards, charcuterie boards, and bourbon smokers. Check out the shop for swag including t-shirts, mugs, and glasses just to name a few. Want something you don’t see yet. let us know and we can create it for you.
